"Singles" is a timely docudrama covering the negative realities revealed by declining family formation and fertility, simultaneously opening the door to population decline as a positive. Key issues are the struggles of boys and men, complications to dating created by technology, lack of a maternal safety net and culture in place to support working moms, health and economic outcomes of marriage and access to marriage by income level and race, and benefits of an economic model that could support population decline. Director Lisa Hurwitz (“The Automat”) draws from an ensemble of experts from the fields of demography, economics, environmental studies, sociology, politics, and the dating industry itself.
